Both areas are considered to be quite luxurious, with Highland Park placed as the 7th-richest place in the United States and University Park not far behind.

For fantastic shopping, one of the best in the area is Highland Park Village. This upscale shopping plaza has some of the most revered fashion brands in the world. Highland Park Village also has historical significance as the first self-contained shopping center in America. Another great stop is Snider Plaza, a large shopping center with anything from clothing retailers to delicious eateries. Tootsies is the perfect place to find women’s clothing, accessories, and shoes by many well-known designers.

For those wishing to attend an event, Highland Park Village is known to host events throughout the year, such as the popular Local Artisan Market. Here, you can find many great local goods, foods, and music. Another great destination for events is the private Park House.
 
As for parks, Lakeside Park, nicknamed Teddy Bear Park for the many cute teddy bear statues scattered around the grounds, has plenty of room for walking and enjoying a picnic. Prather Park features scenic views and a tennis court and is great for those who want to walk in nature.
